United Methodist Women Conference UMW Annual Meeting, October 1-2, 2010

OIMC UMW annual meeting will be held October 1-2, 2010 at Northeast Regional Center, Preston, OK. The theme is "FAITH, HOPE & LOVE IN ACTION".

Registration will begin at 4 pm Friday, October 1 and evening program will start at 6:45 pm. Our agenda for Friday and Saturday will be: devotionals, tribal singing, business meeting, keynote speaker, Memorial service and Gift in Memory, Parade of units, Election, Pledge Service, officer update, children's program, and ends with Communion.

Meals to be served include Friday supper, Saturday breakfast and lunch. Everyone invited including pastors and each local unit is encouraged to be represented by their President and two delegates as voting members.

 Local units from New Hope UMC, Dallas UMC, Ware's Chapel UMC and Mary Lee Clark UMC will perform skits. Each person is to bring a tea towel for exchange, item(s) for Silent Auction (proceeds for Pledge), and items for Hospice, our mission project (a donation list will be available at the District Annual meetings). Don't forget to bring your own table settings for meals - GOING GREEN! The Lord continues to bless us so let us rejoice and celebrate our blessed year.

Northern District UMW celebrate retreat and plan annual meeting Conference UMW Annual Meeting, October 1-2, 2010

Northern District UMW held a retreat the weekend of August 13-14, 2010, at Cookson Hills. Our theme was "What, We Have a Purpose?!" and our Scripture was Romans 8:28. Meri Whitaker was our Friday evening speaker and we had a special presentation of Spirit Hands by Canterbury Chapel. The following were study topics and study leaders:

Spiritual Growth To Know God - JoEllen Frank

Experience Freedom as Whole Persons - Gloria Lowe

Develop a Creative Supportive Fellowship - Becky Thompson

Concepts of Mission - Maxine Barnett

These classes were very beneficial to helping understand our UMW Purpose, and perhaps help us to know the UMW Purpose. Our retreat concluded at 11:55 a.m. Saturday. We had 39 registered. Those units represented were from Big Cussetah UMC, Broken Arrow UMC, Canterbury Chapel UMC, Norman First American UMC, Pickett Chapel UMC, and Tulsa Indian UMC.

September 10-11 North District Annual Meeting

Our theme is "Bearing Good Fruit" and our scripture is Matthew 7:17. Friday, registration is 4-6 p.m. Supper is 5:30-6:30. Our Friday evening program starts at 7:00. Saturday Program starts at 9:00 a.m. Please be reminded, this is election year, and each unit may have 3 votes. These consist of the President and 2 delegates. Our Nominations Committee has been very busy setting the slate. Although we will have a slate, nominations will be taken from the floor. This year instead of corsages we will be selling ribbons for mission, so decorate a ribbon. Also, we will have a HOME-MADE APRON EXCHANGE. So bring a homemade apron to participate. Don't forget we are still going green.

Mission Education Event

The 2010 Mission Education Event was held at the Northeast Region Center, Preston, Oklahoma. There were 55 participants. Classes held were: For the Love of God: The Epistles of John, study leaders: Nellie Long and Josephine Deere; Joy to the World: Mission in the Age of Global Christianity, study leaders: Rev. Billie Nowabbi and Rev. Jeremy Bassett; and The Beauty and Courage of Sudan,study leader was Becky Thompson.

 All classes were held in either the UMW Building or the Education Building; as well as one class in the Bishop's cabin. Meals were served in the youth building, children's classes were held in the two children's buildings. According to the evaluations - everyone was pleased with this year's event. The food was excellent. Some stayed in the youth building, others got rooms in nearby motels. Special emphasis was on the National Assembly. Carissa O'Dell, a young UMW and a first time attendee, gave us her take on this - all favorable. This was accompanied by a video of the event. OIMC-UMW were well represented in St. Louis, hopefully next time more of us can go.
