United Methodist Women
One of the programs of the United Methodist Women is the Reading Program. The purpose of the Reading Program is to encourage members to:
*Expand understanding of and participation in God's mission
•*Increase sensitivity to all human beings - - their needs, interests and concerns.
•*Encourage critical thinking about issues facing humanity today.
•*Grow in understanding Scriptures as it relates to Christian faith in contemporary life.
•*Enhance self-knowledge and act from that knowledge.
•*Strengthen involvement in local and global Christian mission.
There are four plans to achieve this purpose:
Plan I: Read four books each year; One book from four different categories; Selections from the 2007-2011 reading lists if not included in previous reports, include youth books; Regular reading of Response magazine.
Plan II: Read ten books each year; At least two books from four different categories; Selections from the 2007-2011 reading lists if not included in previous reports, including youth books; Regular reading of Response and New World Outlook magazines.
Plan III: Read 15 books each year; Eight books with at least two from each category; Seven additional books from any category; Selections from the 2007-2011 reading lists if not included in previous reports, including youth and children's books; Regular reading of Response and
New World Outlook magazines.
Plan IV: Read 20 books each year; Eight books with at least two from each category; 12 additional books from any category; Selections from the 2007-2011 reading lists if not included in previous reports, including youth and children's books; Regular reading of Response and New World Outlook magazines.
