2008-2009 Scholarship Opportunities OIMC Students who plan to attend college in the fall of 2008 are encouraged to apply for scholarships offered through The United Methodist Church and Oklahoma City University. Oklahoma City University will again offer their Native American Scholars scholarships to any Native American student who meets their criteria. The scholarships will cover tuition, applicable fees, room and board and $200 per semester book allowance. This is the third year that OCU has offered the American Indian Scholarships. The deadline for the scholarship is March 1, 2008. Applications can be found online at www.okcu.edu/students/multicultural/ais.aspx. The General Board of Higher Education and Ministry offers several scholarships for United Methodist students each year. The first is the ethnic-minority scholarship which is for United Methodist students who are from an ethnic background. The basic criteria includes being an active, full member of a United Methodist church for at least one year prior to applying; admitted to a full-time degree program in an accredited college/university and maintain a grade point average of 2.5 or above. The deadline for this scholarship is May 1. The second scholarship is the HANA scholarship which is for Hispanic, Asian, Native American or Pacific Islanders who are juniors or seniors in college or graduate students. The same criteria above applies to this scholarship. The deadline for the HANA scholarship is April 1. The United Methodist scholarships are all available online at the GBHEM website at www.gbhem.org. When you enter the website, click the loans and scholarships box. Students are also reminded to complete the federal financial aid forms as early as possible. |
