April 9, 2019 | The Oklahoma Indian Missionary Conference (OIMC) sent a delegation to South Dakota this week to learn firsthand how to help with flood relief efforts on the Pine Ridge Indian reservation. More than 1,500 people have been displaced due to severe flooding that has devastated roads and left hundreds without access to clean water.
“I presented a check for $5,000 on behalf of the churches of OIMC to help with recovery efforts,” said the Rev. David Wilson, OIMC conference superintendent. “The communities on the reservation are facing millions of dollars in damages that will take years to fully recover from the flooding.”
Wilson, along with United Methodist Committee on Relief project manager, Lorrie King and the Rev. Bryan Tener, purchased diapers while on site. Wilson is calling specifically for donations of diapers, baby wipes, and baby formula to be dropped off at local OIMC churches or at the OIMC office at 602 SW 35th Street, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73109.
