On September 17, 2023, several pastors and their spouses descended on St. Crispins Retreat Center between Wewoka and Seminole, Oklahoma to experience a time of relaxation, worship, and study.
The retreat began on Sunday evening with a time of registration, relaxing and preparing for the days ahead. One of the relaxation items was chair volleyball; however, it did become somewhat competitive.
Monday was filled with learning sessions including a workshop on “Reaching Youth and Young Adults for Ministry,” by the Rev. Derrek Belase of the Oklahoma Conference. His insights resonated deeply, fostering a learning atmosphere enriched by his expertise. In the afternoon, the Rev. Carlos Ramires, also from the Oklahoma Conference, gave a presentation on the use of social media in the church. In addition, Patricia Waysepappy from the Southwest Region presented on spiritual formation.
The evening session consisted of a testimonial service and Holy Communion which was presided over by Bishop Jimmy Nunn. The evening ended with a live auction. Proceeds from the auction as well as from the silent auction all go to support the retreat.
The clergy spouses led morning devotion on Tuesday. Bishop Nunn led the morning session on the “Holy Spirit using the Book of Acts.” Couples had free time in the afternoon with options to make a dream catcher, fish, hike, or play chair volleyball.
During the evening cookout, the Rev. Tom Moore and wife, Gloria, were crowned the new Mr. and Mrs. Hot Links. This is a coveted award that always makes for a fun memorable moment. The evening devotions were led by the female clergy and Lay Missioner June Marshall brought the message. Following worship, a rousing game of bingo was played, and everyone won!Save the date, September 22-25, 2024, for the next Pastor/Spouse retreat. Two new committee members were selected, the Rev. Eli McHenry and the Rev. David Warden. Other committee members include the Rev. Lucy Durant, the Rev. Margaret Johnson and Lay Missioner Josephine Deere who was named chair of the committee.
